Improving Sigma Value Through DMAIC at Teaching Factory STT Texmaco

Abstract

The STT Texmaco Subang Teaching Factory is a wiring harness production facility, representing a collaboration between STT Texmaco Subang and PT. Piranti Indonesia always strives to achieve zero defects in their production line. The company has implemented the Kaizen concept as a Quality Control Circle, reducing defects to less than 1%. Nevertheless, the company continues its efforts to enhance the quality of the products through continuous improvement to minimise the defect rate. Hence, this research adopts the Six Sigma approach to assist the company in attaining zero defects. Currently, the company has a sigma value of 0.90, with "miss insert" identified as the predominant cause of defects in the production line. The researcher utilises a fishbone diagram for root cause analysis and Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) to prioritise the issues that need resolution. The outdated work diagram is identified as the top priority for resolution in this study. Evaluation results indicate a reduction in defects and an increase in the sigma value to 2.35.
